About Jelena Behrend

A visit to Jelena Behrend Studio, as a studio visit with an artist, provides not only a glimpse of most recent works, but also insight into the creative process and unique methodology of the artist. Born and raised in Serbia, Behrend learned her craft with old world artisans, while refining her signature style and techniques with influences ranging from ancient Greece to vivid New York City, from candlelit churches to punk rock clubs, always hammering unprecedented elegance into metal and stone. Moving to the United States in the late 80s, Behrend apprenticed for a master jeweler in Los Angeles and, in 1994, opened her first jewelry studio in LA, where her edgy, meticulously sculpted works were eagerly featured in numerous magazines, movies, music videos, and amassed an impressive list of celebrity enthusiasts. In 1996, Behrend headed to downtown New York, working in her private studio until, two years later, she opened Jelena Behrend Studio on the Lower East Side. A bold and welcoming workspace and gemlike showroom, Jelena Behrend Studio welcomes visitors by appointment only. While she has conceptualized and created collections for various designers, artists, and luxury stores, a visit to the studio provides the opportunity to view her distinctive individual collections and custom work ranging from large scale sculptural pieces in silver to delicate diamond and platinum rings.
